Encierro - the running of/with bulls

I awoke, startled. My eyes, slowly gaining focus, revealed my blurry surroundings, a messy tent. The taste of sangria still tainted my tongue, which I peeled from the roof of my mouth. A voice, which sounded like it was outside my tent, was yelling something about rubbing with balls. I checked the time - 5.42am.

San Fermin opening day

The Spanish really do know how to throw a party. The opening day of fiestas de San Fermin kicks off at midday. However the events before and after the opening ceremony are far more entertaining.

The Party Professionals

A bus full of antipodeans, two bus drivers and tour guide is how the journey started. It is also how it ended but along the way some epic stories were created, new friends made and a hell of a lot of alcohol was consumed. Except for the stupendous bus journey I can say I had a pretty good time in Spain. The tour company I travelled with were call PP Travel (PP stands for Party Professionals - aptly named). Here’s how it all went down.

Snowboarding Borovets

The flight there was unbelievably hot and the seating was like being inside a battery hen cage. But I made it to Bulgaria in one piece and after a two-hour bus ride to the Balkan Mountains I was at the resort.

Sundowner: Dinner and Dune Safari

My driver pulled up in a SUV. It had all the modern comforts - air conditioning, huge leg-space and a chiller to keep the water bottles. Surely he wasn’t going to take this machine out through the desert?
